WARNING
- Do not drive the Nissan Sentra with the trunk lid open.
- Always closely supervise children when they are around vehicles.
This can allow hazardous exhaust gases to be drawn into the passenger compartment, increasing the risk of carbon monoxide exposure.
This helps prevent children from playing inside the vehicle or becoming accidentally locked inside the trunk, where serious injury or death could occur. Keep the Nissan Sentra locked when not in use, ensure the rear seatback and trunk lid are securely latched, and always keep vehicle keys out of children’s reach.
To open the trunk lid of the Nissan Sentra, press the trunk lid release switch located on the instrument panel.
To close the trunk lid, gently lower it and press down firmly until it is fully closed and securely latched.
NOTE:
The trunk lid can also be opened using the Nissan Sentra Intelligent Key, providing convenient access when your hands are full.
Interior trunk lid release

WARNING
Closely supervise children whenever they are near vehicles to prevent them from playing inside or becoming trapped in the trunk, which could result in serious injury.
Always keep the Nissan Sentra locked when not in use, ensure the rear seatback and trunk lid are securely latched, and prevent children from accessing vehicle keys.
The interior trunk lid release mechanism is designed as an emergency escape feature for both children and adults in the event they become accidentally locked inside the trunk of the Nissan Sentra.
To open the trunk from the inside, pull the illuminated emergency release handle until the lock releases, then push upward on the trunk lid. The handle is manufactured from a glow-in-the-dark material that illuminates after brief exposure to ambient light, making it visible even in low-light conditions.
The emergency release handle is located on the inside surface of the trunk lid within the trunk compartment.
Interior trunk access
The trunk of the Nissan Sentra can also be accessed from inside the vehicle through the rear seatbacks, either from the driver’s side or the passenger’s side.
1. Move the corresponding front seat to its most forward position.
2. Pull up on the release knob located on the rear seatback.
3. Fold down the driver’s side or passenger’s side rear seatback to access the trunk area.
WARNING
- Never allow anyone to ride in the cargo area or on the rear seat when it is folded down.
- Using these areas without proper seating and restraints may result in serious injury or death during a collision or sudden stop.
- Always secure cargo with appropriate ropes or straps to prevent it from shifting.
- Do not stack cargo higher than the seatbacks, as unsecured items may cause injury in the event of sudden braking or impact.
- When returning the rear seatbacks to the upright position, make sure they are fully latched and locked.
- If the seatbacks are not properly secured, passengers may be injured during an accident or abrupt stop.
- Closely supervise children around the Nissan Sentra to prevent them from playing inside the vehicle or becoming trapped in the trunk.
- Keep the vehicle locked when not in use, with the rear seatback and trunk lid securely latched, and store vehicle keys out of children’s reach.
