Opener operation

The fuel-filler door release for the Nissan Sentra is located below the instrument panel. To open the fuel-filler door, pull the release lever firmly. To lock and secure the fuel-filler door, simply close it until it is fully seated and latched.

WARNING
Improper handling may result in burns or serious personal injury. Always stop the engine and do not smoke or allow open flames or sparks near the Nissan Sentra while refueling.
Continuing to refuel may cause fuel overflow, fuel spray, and a potential fire hazard.
The correct cap includes a built-in safety valve required for proper fuel
system and emission control operation. Using an incorrect cap may cause system
malfunctions, personal injury, or trigger the
Malfunction
Indicator Light (MIL).
CAUTION
It may take several driving trips for the message to display. Failure
to secure the fuel-filler cap after the warning appears may cause the
Malfunction
Indicator Light (MIL) to illuminate.

turns on due to a loose or missing cap, tighten or reinstall the cap and continue
driving. The

should turn off after several trips. If the
light
remains on, have the vehicle inspected by a NISSAN dealer.

To remove the fuel-filler cap:
1. Turn the fuel-filler cap counterclockwise to remove it.
2. Loop the tether strap around the hook 1 while refueling to prevent the cap from being misplaced.
To install the fuel-filler cap:
1. Insert the fuel-filler cap straight into the fuel-filler tube.
2. Turn the fuel-filler cap clockwise until a single click is heard, confirming it is properly tightened.

LOOSE FUEL CAP warning
The LOOSE FUEL CAP warning appears in the vehicle information display if the fuel-filler cap is not tightened correctly after refueling the Nissan Sentra. The message may appear after several driving trips. To turn off the warning:
1. Remove and reinstall the fuel-filler cap as soon as possible.
2. Tighten the fuel-filler cap until a click is heard.
3. Press the OK button on the steering wheel to clear the Loose Fuel Cap warning after the cap has been properly secured.
