Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: NISSAN Intelligent Key

WARNING

  • Radio waves may adversely affect electronic medical equipment. Drivers or passengers who use a pacemaker or similar medical device should consult the device manufacturer regarding possible effects before using the NISSAN Intelligent Key in the Nissan Sentra.
  • The Intelligent Key emits radio waves when its buttons are pressed.

The FAA advises that radio wave emissions may interfere with aircraft navigation and communication systems. Do not operate the Intelligent Key while on an airplane.

Ensure that the buttons are not pressed unintentionally while the Intelligent Key is stored during air travel.

  • Always place the transmission in the P (Park) position and apply the parking brake when parking the Nissan Sentra, entering or exiting the vehicle, or loading and unloading luggage.

Failure to follow these precautions may cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly, potentially resulting in serious personal injury or property damage.

The NISSAN Intelligent Key system allows convenient operation of all door locks on the Nissan Sentra using the remote control function or by pressing the request switch (if so equipped) on the vehicle, without removing the key from a pocket or bag. The operating environment and surrounding conditions may influence Intelligent Key performance.

Be sure to carefully review the following information before using the Intelligent Key system on your Nissan Sentra.

CAUTION

  • Always carry the Intelligent Key with you when operating the Nissan Sentra.
  • Never leave the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle when exiting.

The Intelligent Key continuously communicates with the Nissan Sentra by receiving and transmitting radio waves. The system uses low-power radio signals; however, environmental factors may interfere with proper operation under certain conditions:

  • Operating near sources of strong radio waves, such as TV towers, power stations, or broadcast facilities.
  • Carrying wireless devices such as mobile phones, transceivers, or CB radios.
  • When the Intelligent Key is in contact with or covered by metallic materials.
  • When other radio wave remote-control devices are being used nearby.
  • When the Intelligent Key is placed close to electronic equipment such as personal computers.
  • When the Nissan Sentra is parked near a parking meter.

In these situations, adjust the operating conditions before using the Intelligent Key functions, or use the mechanical key if necessary.

Battery life varies depending on usage and environmental conditions; however, the Intelligent Key battery typically lasts approximately two years. If the battery becomes discharged, replace it promptly with a new one.

Because the Intelligent Key constantly receives radio signals, leaving it near devices that emit strong radio waves—such as televisions or personal computers—may shorten battery life.

Up to four Intelligent Keys can be registered for use with one Nissan Sentra. For information regarding purchasing or registering additional Intelligent Keys, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer.

CAUTION

The following conditions or actions may damage the Intelligent Key:

  • Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electronic components, to come into contact with water or saltwater, as this may affect system operation.
  • Do not drop the Intelligent Key.
  • Do not strike the Intelligent Key forcefully against other objects.
  • Do not alter or modify the Intelligent Key.
  • Exposure to moisture may damage the Intelligent Key. If it becomes wet, dry it thoroughly immediately.
  • Do not store the Intelligent Key for extended periods in areas where temperatures exceed 140°F (60°C).
  • Do not attach the Intelligent Key to key holders containing magnets.
  • Do not place the Intelligent Key near equipment that generates magnetic fields, such as televisions, audio systems, or computers.

If an Intelligent Key is lost or stolen, NISSAN recommends erasing that key’s ID code from the Nissan Sentra. This helps prevent unauthorized vehicle operation. For details on the erasing and reprogramming procedure, it is recommended that you contact a NISSAN dealer.
