When the doors of the Nissan Sentra are locked using any of the available locking methods, they cannot be opened from either the inside or outside door handles. To open the doors, they must first be properly unlocked using the key, Intelligent Key, or door lock controls.
WARNING
Locking with key

Driver's side
To lock the driver’s door using the mechanical key, turn the key toward the rear of the Nissan Sentra 1. This action locks only the corresponding door and does not activate the vehicle security system.
To activate the security system, press the
button on the Intelligent Key.
To unlock the door using the mechanical key, turn the key toward the front of the vehicle 2. This unlocks only the selected door and does not disarm the security system.
Locking with inside lock knob

Inside lock
To lock a door without using a key, move the inside lock knob to the lock position 1 and then close the door.
To unlock the door from the inside, move the lock knob to the unlock position 2.
Locking with power door lock switch

To lock all doors without a key, press the power door lock switch on either the driver’s or front passenger’s side to the lock position 1. When using this method, always make sure the Intelligent Key is not left inside the Nissan Sentra.
To unlock all doors, press the same switch to the unlock position 2.
Lockout protection
If any door is open and the power door lock switch is moved to the lock position, all doors will lock. However, if the Intelligent Key remains inside the Nissan Sentra after the doors are closed, the system will automatically unlock all doors and sound a chime.
This feature helps prevent the Intelligent Key from being accidentally locked inside the vehicle.
Automatic door locks
NOTE:
The automatic door unlock behavior of the Nissan Sentra can be customized through the “Vehicle Settings” menu in the vehicle information display.
Child safety rear door lock

The child safety rear door lock system helps prevent rear doors from being opened from the inside, which is especially important when small children are seated in the rear of the Nissan Sentra.
The child safety lock levers are located on the edge of each rear door.
When the lever is in the unlock position 2, the rear door can be opened from both the inside and outside.
When the lever is set to the LOCK position 1, the rear door can be opened only from the outside.
