REMOVAL

Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Disconnect.

Drain coolant. Refer to Draining.

CAUTION:

  • Do not spill coolant on the drive belt while working.

  • Be sure to perform this operation when engine coolant temperature is cold.

Remove the drive belt. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Remove the water pump bolts and then remove the water pump.

  • Engine coolant remaining in the cylinder block will drain out at this time. Use a tray to collect it.

CAUTION:

  • Do not reuse water pump gasket.

  • Do not allow water pump vane to interfere with other parts.

  • Do not disassemble water pump.

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

CAUTION:

Do not reuse water pump gasket.

INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL

Check visually that there is no significant dirt, rusting or corrosion on water pump body and vane (A).

Check that there is no looseness in vane shaft, and that it turns smoothly when rotated by hand.

Replace water pump, if necessary.

INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

Checking for Coolant Leaks

Start the engine.

Check the joints for coolant leaks. Refer to Inspection.
