Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Types of tires

WARNING

Summer tires

NISSAN specifies summer tires on certain Nissan Sentra models to deliver enhanced handling, steering response, and braking performance on dry and wet paved roads.

However, summer tire performance is significantly reduced on snow, ice, or in very cold temperatures. These tires are not designed for winter driving conditions.

Summer tires do not carry the “M&S” (Mud and Snow) traction designation on the tire sidewall.

If you expect to operate your Nissan Sentra in snowy or icy conditions, NISSAN strongly recommends installing SNOW tires or ALL SEASON tires on all four wheels for improved traction and vehicle control.

Snow tires

If snow tires are required, select tires that are equivalent in size and load rating to the original equipment tires installed on your Nissan Sentra. Using incorrect tire specifications may negatively affect vehicle safety, braking performance, and handling.

In general, snow tires have lower speed ratings than factory-equipped tires and may not support the vehicle’s maximum speed capability. Always observe the maximum speed rating specified on the tire.

When snow tires are installed, they must be the same size, brand, construction, and tread pattern on all four wheels to maintain proper balance and drivetrain operation.

For added traction on icy surfaces, studded snow tires may be used where legally permitted. However, some U.S. states and Canadian provinces restrict or prohibit their use.

Always check local, state, and provincial regulations before installing studded tires. Be aware that studded snow tires may provide reduced skid resistance and traction on wet or dry pavement compared to non-studded snow tires.

Tire chains

CAUTION

Tire chains or cables must not be installed on 215/50R17 and 215/45R18 tire sizes. Installing chains or cables on these tire sizes will cause damage to the Nissan Sentra. If you plan to use tire chains or cables, install 205/60R16 tires on your vehicle.

The use of tire chains may be restricted or prohibited depending on local laws. Always verify local regulations before installing tire chains.

When installing tire chains, ensure they are the correct size for the tires on your Nissan Sentra and are installed strictly according to the chain manufacturer’s instructions.

Use only SAE Class “S” tire chains. Class “S” chains are specifically designed for vehicles with limited clearance between the tires and suspension or body components.

Vehicles approved for Class “S” chains meet minimum clearance requirements established using factory-equipped tires. Using other types of chains may result in vehicle damage.

Use chain tensioners if recommended by the manufacturer to maintain a secure fit. Any loose chain ends must be properly secured or removed to prevent damage to the fenders or underbody.

When driving with tire chains installed, avoid fully loading the vehicle and operate at reduced speeds. Failure to do so may result in vehicle damage and reduced handling stability.

Tire chains must be installed only on the front wheels and never on the rear wheels.

Never install tire chains on a TEMPORARY USE ONLY spare tire.

Do not use tire chains on dry roads. Driving with chains under dry conditions can overstress vehicle components and cause mechanical damage.
