Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Each tire on the Nissan Sentra, including the spare tire if equipped, should be inspected at least once a month when the tires are cold and inflated to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. This information is shown on the vehicle placard or the tire inflation pressure label. If your Nissan Sentra is equipped with tires that differ in size from those listed on the placard, it is important to determine and apply the correct inflation pressure specifically for those tires.

As an additional safety feature, the Nissan Sentra is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This system continuously monitors tire pressure and illuminates a low tire pressure warning indicator whenever one or more tires are significantly under-inflated.

When the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, you should safely stop the vehicle as soon as possible, check the pressure in all tires, and inflate them to the specified level. Driving with significantly under-inflated tires may cause excessive heat buildup, which can result in tire failure. Under-inflation can also negatively affect fuel efficiency, reduce tire tread life, and impair the handling and braking performance of your Nissan Sentra.

Please note that the TPMS is not a replacement for regular tire maintenance. It remains the driver’s responsibility to maintain proper tire pressure at all times, even if the tire pressure has not dropped enough to trigger the TPMS warning light.

The Nissan Sentra is also equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to alert the driver if the system itself is not functioning correctly.

This malfunction indicator is integrated with the low tire pressure warning light.

If the TPMS detects a malfunction, the warning light will flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated.

This sequence will repeat each time the vehicle is started as long as the malfunction persists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the TPMS may not be able to accurately detect or warn of low tire pressure conditions. TPMS malfunctions can occur for several reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels that are not compatible with the system.

After replacing one or more tires or wheels on your Nissan Sentra, always check the TPMS warning light to ensure the system continues to operate correctly with the installed components.

Additional information:

• When a wheel without a TPMS sensor is installed, such as a spare tire, the system will not monitor the pressure of that tire.
• The TPMS activates only when the Nissan Sentra is driven at speeds above 16 mph (25 km/h). In addition, the system may not detect sudden pressure loss, such as a rapid tire deflation while driving.
• The low tire pressure warning light does not automatically turn off immediately after adjusting tire pressure. Once all tires are inflated to the recommended pressure, the vehicle must be driven above 16 mph (25 km/h) to allow the TPMS to reset and extinguish the warning light. Always verify tire pressure using a reliable tire pressure gauge.
• The "Tire Pressure Low - Add Air" warning message appears in the odometer display when low tire pressure is detected and the warning light is illuminated.

  The "Tire Pressure Low - Add Air" message will turn off once the low tire pressure warning light is no longer illuminated. The warning light remains on until all tires reach the recommended COLD tire pressure.

  This message will be displayed each time the ignition switch is placed in the ON position as long as the low tire pressure warning light remains illuminated.

• The "Tire Pressure Low - Add Air" warning message will not be displayed if the low tire pressure warning light is illuminated due to a TPMS malfunction.
• Tire pressure naturally increases and decreases based on heat generated during driving and changes in outside temperature. Do not reduce tire pressure after driving, as tire pressure rises with heat.

  Cold ambient temperatures can lower the air pressure inside the tires, which may cause the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate. If this occurs, check and adjust the tire pressure of all four tires on your Nissan Sentra.

• The Tire and Loading Information label is located in the driver’s door opening for easy reference.

WARNING

• Radio waves generated by the TPMS may interfere with certain types of electronic medical equipment. Individuals who use a pacemaker or similar medical devices should consult the device manufacturer regarding possible effects before operating the vehicle.
• If the low tire pressure warning light illuminates while driving, avoid sudden steering inputs or hard braking. Gradually reduce speed, move to a safe location off the roadway, and stop the Nissan Sentra as soon as it is safe to do so.

Driving a Nissan Sentra with under-inflated tires can permanently damage the tires and significantly increase the risk of tire failure while driving.

Severe vehicle damage may occur as a result, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control, an accident, and serious personal injury to the occupants of the Nissan Sentra.

Check the tire pressure for all four tires regularly. Adjust each tire to the recommended COLD tire pressure listed on the Tire and Loading Information label to turn off the low tire pressure warning light. If a tire is flat, replace it with the spare tire as soon as possible to ensure safe operation of your Nissan Sentra.

CAUTION

Do not apply metalized window film or install metal components (such as antennas) on the windows.

Doing so may interfere with signal reception from the tire pressure sensors, preventing the TPMS from functioning properly in the Nissan Sentra.

Some electronic devices or radio transmitters may temporarily interfere with TPMS operation and cause the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate even when tire pressure is correct.

Examples of potential interference sources include:

• Facilities or electrical equipment operating on radio frequencies similar to those used by the TPMS.
• Transmitters using comparable frequencies operating inside or near the Nissan Sentra.
• Computers, DC/AC converters, or similar electronic equipment being used in or near the vehicle.

The low tire pressure warning light may illuminate under the following conditions:

• If the vehicle is equipped with a wheel and tire that does not include a TPMS sensor.
• If the TPMS has been replaced and the sensor identification codes have not been registered.
• If wheels not originally specified by NISSAN are installed on the vehicle.

TPMS with Easy-Fill Tire Alert

When inflating an under-inflated tire, the Nissan Sentra TPMS with Easy-Fill Tire Alert provides both visual and audible alerts outside the vehicle to help you reach the recommended COLD tire pressure accurately.

Vehicle set-up:

1. Park the Nissan Sentra on a level surface in a safe location.

2. Apply the parking brake firmly and place the shift lever in the P (Park) position, if equipped.

3. Place the ignition switch in the ON position without starting the engine.

Operation:

1. Begin adding air to the tire.

2. After several seconds, the hazard warning lights will begin to flash.

3. When the correct tire pressure is reached, the horn will sound once and the hazard warning lights will stop flashing, indicating that the tire is properly inflated.

4. Repeat the steps described above for each tire on the Nissan Sentra to ensure that all tires are inflated evenly and according to specifications.

• If a tire becomes over-inflated by more than approximately 4 psi (30 kPa), the horn will beep and the hazard indicators will flash three times. To correct the pressure, briefly press the core of the valve stem to release excess air. Once the tire pressure returns to the designated level, the horn will beep once, confirming correct inflation for your Nissan Sentra.
• If the hazard indicators do not begin flashing within approximately 15 seconds after inflation starts, this indicates that the Easy-Fill Tire Alert feature is not operating at that time.
• The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will not activate the Easy-Fill Tire Alert under the following conditions:
  • If there is radio or signal interference from an external electronic device or transmitter.
  • If the air pressure supplied by the inflation device is insufficient to properly inflate the tire.
  • If there is a malfunction within the TPMS system of the Nissan Sentra.
  • If there is a malfunction in the horn or the hazard warning indicators.
  • If the identification code of the tire pressure sensor has not been correctly registered to the system.
  • If the battery inside the tire pressure sensor is low.
• If the Easy-Fill Tire Alert does not function due to TPMS signal interference, move the Nissan Sentra approximately 3 ft (1 m) backward or forward, then attempt the procedure again.

If the Easy-Fill Tire Alert feature is not operating as expected, always use a reliable tire pressure gauge to manually verify and adjust tire pressure for safe driving.
