Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Avoiding collision and rollover

WARNING

Failure to operate the Nissan Sentra in a safe, attentive, and prudent manner may result in loss of vehicle control, a serious accident, or a rollover.

Always remain alert and practice defensive driving techniques whenever operating your Nissan Sentra.

Strictly obey all traffic laws and posted speed limits. Avoid excessive speed, aggressive cornering, or sudden and sharp steering inputs, as these driving behaviors can significantly increase the risk of losing control of the Nissan Sentra.

As with any passenger vehicle, a loss of control may result in a collision with other vehicles or fixed objects, or may cause the Nissan Sentra to roll over, especially if the vehicle begins to slide sideways.

Stay focused at all times and avoid driving when fatigued. Never operate the Nissan Sentra under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including prescription or over-the-counter medications that may cause drowsiness or impair judgment. Always wear your seat belt as described in the “Safety – Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system” section of this manual, and ensure that all passengers are properly restrained.

Seat belts significantly reduce the risk of injury during collisions and rollovers.

In a rollover accident, an unbelted occupant is far more likely to suffer fatal injuries than a person who is wearing a seat belt.

Off-road recovery

While driving, it is possible for the right-side or left-side wheels of the Nissan Sentra to unintentionally leave the paved road surface. If this occurs, maintain control of the vehicle by carefully following the steps outlined below.

Please note that this procedure serves as a general guideline only. The Nissan Sentra must always be driven according to actual road, vehicle, and traffic conditions.

1. Remain calm and avoid sudden reactions.

2. Do not apply the brakes abruptly.

3. Keep a firm, steady grip on the steering wheel with both hands and maintain a straight driving path.

4. When appropriate, gradually release the accelerator pedal to slowly reduce vehicle speed.

5. If there are no obstacles, gently steer the Nissan Sentra parallel to the roadway while speed is reduced. Do not attempt to re-enter the roadway until vehicle speed has sufficiently decreased.

6. When it is safe, gradually turn the steering wheel so that all tires return to the road surface. Once fully back on the roadway, steer the vehicle to remain within the appropriate lane.

Rapid air pressure loss

Rapid air pressure loss, commonly referred to as a “blow-out,” may occur if a tire is punctured or damaged by striking a curb, pothole, or road debris. Driving on under-inflated tires can also lead to sudden air pressure loss.

A rapid loss of tire pressure can significantly affect the handling, balance, and stability of the Nissan Sentra, particularly at highway speeds.

To help prevent rapid air pressure loss, maintain the correct tire inflation pressure and regularly inspect all tires for visible wear or damage. For more details, refer to the “Wheels and tires” section. If a tire on the Nissan Sentra suddenly loses air pressure while driving, follow the procedure below to help maintain control. This procedure is intended as a general guide.

Always drive the vehicle according to actual vehicle condition, road surface, and traffic situation.

WARNING

If there is a sudden loss of tire air pressure, the Nissan Sentra will typically pull toward the side of the affected tire. Losing control in this situation may lead to a collision and serious personal injury.

To reduce the risk of losing control:

1. Stay calm and do not panic.

2. Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel with both hands and keep the vehicle traveling straight.

3. Gradually release the accelerator pedal to reduce speed.

4. Carefully steer the Nissan Sentra to a safe area off the roadway, away from traffic, if possible.

5. Gently apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop.

6. Activate the hazard warning flashers and contact roadside assistance to have the tire replaced.

Drinking alcohol/drugs and driving

WARNING

Never operate the Nissan Sentra while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Alcohol in the bloodstream reduces coordination, slows reaction time, and impairs judgment.

Driving after consuming alcohol greatly increases the risk of accidents that can result in serious injury or death to you and others.

In addition, alcohol consumption can significantly increase the severity of injuries sustained during an accident.

NISSAN is committed to promoting safe driving practices. However, the responsibility to avoid driving under the influence rests with the driver. Every year, thousands of people are injured or killed in alcohol-related collisions. While legal limits may vary by location, alcohol affects individuals differently, and many drivers underestimate its impact.

Remember, drinking and driving never mix. This warning also applies to prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and illegal substances. Do not drive the Nissan Sentra if your ability to operate the vehicle safely is impaired by alcohol, drugs, fatigue, or any other physical condition.
