Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Exhaust gas (carbon monoxide)
WARNING
- Never inhale exhaust gases, as they contain carbon monoxide, a colorless
and odorless gas. Carbon monoxide is extremely hazardous and can quickly lead
to loss of consciousness or death, even in short exposure situations.
- If you believe exhaust fumes are entering the Nissan Sentra, immediately
open all windows fully and have the vehicle inspected by a qualified technician
without delay.
- Do not operate the engine in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas such
as garages, tunnels, or enclosed parking structures.
- Avoid leaving the Nissan Sentra parked with the engine running for extended
periods of time, even outdoors.
- Keep rear vent windows, doors, and trunk lids (if so equipped) fully
closed while driving. If any of these must remain open, exhaust gases may be
drawn into the passenger compartment. In such cases, follow these precautions:
- Open all windows to allow fresh air circulation.
- Set the
air recirculation button to OFF and adjust the fan control dial to the highest
setting to promote air flow.
- If electrical wiring or other cable connections must pass through the
trunk lid seal or body panels, follow the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations
to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the Nissan Sentra cabin.
- The exhaust system and vehicle body should be inspected by a qualified
mechanic whenever:
- The vehicle is raised for service or maintenance.
- You suspect exhaust fumes are entering the passenger compartment.
- You notice a change in exhaust sound or unusual noise.
- The Nissan Sentra has been involved in an accident affecting the
exhaust system, underbody, or rear structure.
Three-way catalyst
The three-way catalyst is an advanced emission control device installed within
the exhaust system of the Nissan Sentra and plays a critical role in reducing harmful
exhaust emissions.
Inside the three-way catalyst, exhaust gases are treated at very high temperatures,
allowing chemical reactions to convert pollutants into less harmful substances before
they are released into the atmosphere.
WARNING
- The exhaust gases and exhaust system components become extremely hot
during operation. Keep people, animals, and all flammable materials well away
from these components at all times.
- Never stop or park the Nissan Sentra over flammable materials such as
dry grass, leaves, paper, or rags, as they may ignite and cause a fire.
