REMOVAL

CAUTION:

If replacing steering gear and linkage assembly, perform ADDITIONAL SERVICE WHEN REPLACING EPS CONTROL UNIT. Refer to Work Procedure.

Set the front wheels and tires to the straight-ahead position.

CAUTION:

Secure steering wheel with string so that it will not be rotated out of position and damage spiral cable.

Place tilt to the highest level.

CAUTION:

Securely lock the tilt lever.

Remove front suspension member. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Rotate stabilizer bar away from steering gear to gain clearance.

Remove nuts, bolts, and steering gear and linkage assembly.

CAUTION:

Do not reuse steering gear nuts.

Remove seal (if necessary).

INSTALLATION

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

• Tighten steering gear and linkage assembly nuts to specification in the sequence shown:

  

  Sequence number	Torque
  No. 1–3	Finger tighten
  No. 4–6	140 N·m (14 kg-m, 103 ft-lb)

CAUTION:

If replacing steering gear and linkage assembly, perform ADDITIONAL SERVICE WHEN REPLACING EPS CONTROL UNIT. Refer to Work Procedure.

INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

• Turn steering wheel to make sure it moves smoothly while turning to left and right stops.

• Make sure number of turns are the same from straight-forward position to left and right stops.

• Make sure steering wheel is in neutral position when driving straight ahead.
