Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Rear Door Alert
The Rear Door Alert system in the Nissan Sentra operates under specific conditions
to help remind the driver that an object or passenger may be present in the rear
seat(s). Always visually check the rear seat area before exiting the vehicle.
By default, the Rear Door Alert system is disabled.
The driver can enable this feature through the vehicle information display settings.
When the system is enabled:
- The system is activated if a rear door is opened and closed within approximately
10 minutes before the vehicle is driven. Once the driver’s door is closed and
the system is armed, a visual notification appears in the Nissan Sentra vehicle
information display.
- If a rear door is opened and closed but the vehicle is not driven within
about 10 minutes, the system will not activate. To activate the system, a rear
door must be opened and closed and the vehicle driven within the specified time
window.
When the Rear Door Alert system is activated:
- When the driver shifts the vehicle into the P (Park) position, a message
appears in the vehicle information display offering the options “Dismiss Message”
or “Disable Alert.”
- Selecting “Disable Alert” temporarily disables the alert for that stop.
- Selecting “Dismiss Message,” or making no selection, keeps the alert
active for that stop.
- If the alert remains enabled when the driver exits the Nissan Sentra, a
message stating “Check Back Seat For All Articles” appears in the vehicle information
display.
If the “Horn & Alert” setting is selected:
- An audible horn alert will sound after a short delay unless a rear door
is opened and closed within a short time to deactivate the alert.
- If the doors are locked before the alert is deactivated by opening a
rear door, the horn will sound.
- If the trunk is opened before a rear door is opened, the horn alert
will be delayed until after the trunk is closed.
NOTE:
If the “Alert Only” setting is selected, the visual message will still appear
in the vehicle information display, but the horn will not sound.
WARNING
- If the driver selects “Disable Alert,” no audible alert will be provided
regardless of rear door activity.
- There may be situations where an object or passenger is present in the
rear seat(s), but the audible alert does not sound, such as when rear seat passengers
enter or exit the vehicle during a trip.
- The Rear Door Alert system does not directly detect objects or passengers.
Instead, it monitors rear door opening and closing activity to infer that something
may be located in the rear seat area.
NOTE:
In some situations, the horn alert may sound even when no objects or passengers
are present in the rear seat(s).
