Your Nissan Sentra is equipped with dedicated anchor points designed for use with LATCH system–compatible child restraints. This system may also be referred to as ISOFIX or ISOFIX-compatible. When using the LATCH system, a vehicle seat belt is not required to secure the child restraint unless the combined weight of the child and the child restraint exceeds 65 lbs (29.5 kg).

If the combined weight of the child and the child restraint is greater than 65 lbs (29.5 kg), the child restraint must be installed using the vehicle’s seat belt instead of the lower anchors. Always follow the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions for correct installation and use in the Nissan Sentra.

The LATCH anchor points may be used to install child restraints in either rear outboard seating position or in the center rear seating position. Refer to the appropriate section of this Owner’s Manual for detailed instructions on installing a child restraint in the center rear seat using the LATCH anchors.

WARNING

Failure to follow all warnings and installation instructions for child restraints may result in serious injury or death to a child or other occupants during a sudden stop or collision.

Child restraint anchorages are engineered to withstand only the loads imposed by correctly installed child restraints.

Under no circumstances should these anchorages be used to secure adult seat belts, cargo, or other equipment to the vehicle. Misuse can damage the anchorages, prevent proper child restraint installation, and significantly increase the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.

The LATCH lower anchors are positioned as shown in the illustration. Identification labels attached to the seatback help locate the lower anchors in the Nissan Sentra.

LATCH in the center rear seating position

The Nissan Sentra does not have dedicated LATCH anchors for the center rear seating position. However, the inboard lower anchors of the two rear outboard seating positions (indicated by arrows) may be used together to secure a child restraint system (CRS) in the center rear seat.

These anchors are spaced at a distance A of 16 in (404 mm). Before installing a CRS in this position, confirm that the child restraint manufacturer allows the use of LATCH anchors with this spacing.

(These anchors are sometimes referred to as “shared anchors” or “borrowed anchors.”) Child restraint systems with rigid lower attachments cannot be installed in the center rear seating position and must only be used in the outboard seating positions.

WARNING

Never attach two CRS lower attachments to the same LATCH anchor. Doing so may overload the anchor during a collision and increase the risk of serious injury or death.

When installing a CRS in the center rear seating position using the inboard LATCH anchors, ensure that any occupants or child restraints in the outboard seating positions are properly secured with the vehicle seat belt and that there is no interference with the center CRS installation.

If outboard occupants cannot be properly restrained, consider installing the CRS in the center position using the vehicle seat belt, or relocate the CRS to another seating position.

Installing child restraint LATCH lower anchor attachments

LATCH-compatible child restraints are equipped with two rigid or webbing-mounted lower attachments that connect to the designated anchors in specific seating positions of the Nissan Sentra. When installed correctly using LATCH, a vehicle seat belt is not required.

Check the child restraint for a label indicating LATCH compatibility. This information may also be provided in the installation instructions supplied by the child restraint manufacturer.

When installing a child restraint in the Nissan Sentra, carefully read and follow all instructions provided in this Owner’s Manual as well as those supplied by the child restraint manufacturer. Proper understanding of both sets of instructions is essential for safe and secure installation.

WARNING

Child restraint anchorages are engineered to withstand only the loads applied by correctly installed child restraints.

Under no circumstances should these anchor points be used to secure adult seat belts, cargo, or other equipment to the vehicle. Such misuse can damage the anchorages, prevent proper installation of the child restraint, and significantly increase the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.

The child restraint top tether strap must always be used when installing a child restraint using either the LATCH lower anchor attachments or the vehicle seat belts in the Nissan Sentra.

If you have any questions regarding the installation of a child restraint with a top tether strap, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for professional assistance.
