WARNING

- Infants and children must never be held on anyone’s lap. Even the strongest adult cannot withstand the forces generated during a collision.
- Never place a seat belt around both a child and another passenger at the same time.
- NISSAN recommends that all child restraints be installed in the rear seat of the Nissan Sentra. Studies consistently show that children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seat. If installation of a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat is unavoidable, refer to “Forward-facing child restraint installation using the seat belts”.
- Even with the NISSAN Advanced Air Bag System, never install a rear-facing child restraint in the front passenger seat.
An inflating air bag could seriously injure or kill a child. Rear-facing child restraints must only be used in the rear seat.
- Always select a child restraint that fits both the child and the vehicle. Some child restraints may not be compatible with the Nissan Sentra seating positions.
- Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only the loads applied by correctly installed child restraints.
Never use these anchor points to secure adult seat belts or other items. Doing so can damage the anchorages, prevent proper installation of the child restraint, and increase the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.
- Never use child restraint anchor points for adult seat belts or for securing other equipment.
- A child restraint equipped with a top tether strap must not be installed in the front passenger seat.
- After installing a child restraint, keep the seatback as upright as possible.
- Infants and children must always be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint whenever they are riding in the Nissan Sentra.
CAUTION
A child restraint left inside a closed vehicle can become extremely hot. Always check the seating surface and buckles before placing a child in the child restraint.
The Nissan Sentra is equipped with a universal child restraint anchorage system known as LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren). Some child restraints use rigid or webbing-mounted attachments that connect directly to these anchors.
If a LATCH-compatible child restraint is not available, the vehicle seat belts may be used to secure the child restraint.
Several manufacturers offer child restraints designed for infants and children of different sizes. When selecting a child restraint for use in the Nissan Sentra, consider the following important points:
All U.S. states and Canadian provinces or territories require that infants and small children be secured in an approved child restraint at all times while the vehicle is in operation. Canadian law additionally requires that the top tether strap on forward-facing child restraints be attached to the designated anchor point in the vehicle.
