Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

WARNING

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for proper use of the LDW system in the Nissan Sentra may result in serious injury or death.

• The Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system is a warning-only feature designed to alert the driver to a possible unintentional lane departure. It does not provide steering assistance and cannot prevent loss of vehicle control. The driver of the Nissan Sentra remains fully responsible for staying alert, driving safely, maintaining lane position, and keeping control of the vehicle at all times.

The LDW system on the Nissan Sentra operates when the vehicle is driven at speeds of approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) or higher and only when lane markings are clearly visible on the road surface.

The system continuously monitors lane markings using the camera unit (A) mounted above the interior rearview mirror.

When the Nissan Sentra begins to drift out of the detected driving lane without the use of turn signals, the LDW system alerts the driver through a visual indicator and a vibration in the steering wheel.

LDW system operation

For vehicles with the 7 inch meter display

The LDW system provides a lane departure warning when the Nissan Sentra is traveling at approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) or above and lane markings are clearly detected. If the vehicle approaches the left or right boundary of the driving lane, the steering wheel vibrates and the LDW indicator on the instrument panel flashes to warn the driver.

The warning will automatically stop once the Nissan Sentra returns fully within the lane markers.

For vehicles with the 4.2 inch meter display

How to enable/disable the LDW system

For vehicles with the 7 inch meter display

Follow the steps below to enable or disable the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system on the Nissan Sentra.

1. Press the button repeatedly until "Settings" appears in the vehicle information display.

Use the button to select "Driver Assistance," then press the OK button.

2. Select "Lane" and press the OK button.

3. Select "Lane Departure Warning" and press the OK button to turn the system on or off.

NOTE:

Once the LDW system is enabled or disabled, the selected setting will be retained even if the engine of the Nissan Sentra is turned off and restarted.

For vehicles with the 4.2 inch meter display

LDW system limitations

WARNING

The LDW system has operational limitations and may not function correctly in all driving conditions. Road surface quality, unclear or missing lane markings, weather conditions, and camera visibility can affect system performance. Always rely on visual confirmation and safe driving practices when operating the Nissan Sentra.

Listed below are the operating limitations of the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for proper use of the LDW system in the Nissan Sentra may result in serious injury or death.

• The LDW system will not operate at vehicle speeds below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h), or when lane markers cannot be reliably detected.
• Do not rely on the LDW system under the following driving conditions, as proper operation cannot be guaranteed:
  • During adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, snow, or heavy mist.
  • When driving on slippery road surfaces, including icy or snow-covered roads.
  • When traveling on winding, uneven, or poorly maintained roads.
  • When lane closures are present due to construction or road repair work.
  • When driving in makeshift, temporary, or diverted lanes.
  • When driving on roads with unusually narrow lane widths.
  • When the Nissan Sentra is not in normal tire condition, such as with excessive tire wear, low tire pressure, a temporary spare tire, tire chains, or non-standard wheels.
  • When the vehicle is equipped with non-genuine brake or suspension components.
  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle.
• The LDW system may not function correctly under the following additional conditions:
  • On roads with multiple parallel lane markings, faded or unclear markings, yellow lane lines, non-standard markings, or markings obscured by water, dirt, snow, or debris.
  • On roads where discontinued or old lane markings are still visible.
  • On roads with sharp or abrupt curves.
  • On roads with strong visual contrasts such as shadows, snow patches, standing water, wheel ruts, seams, or residual lines from previous road repairs, which may be misinterpreted as lane markers by the LDW system.
  • On roads where traffic lanes merge or split.
  • When the traveling direction of the Nissan Sentra does not align with the detected lane markings.
  • When driving too closely behind another vehicle, obstructing the detection range of the lane camera unit.
  • When rain, snow, dirt, or foreign objects adhere to the windshield area in front of the lane camera unit.
  • When headlight performance is reduced due to dirt on the lenses or improper headlight alignment.
  • When strong light enters the lane camera unit, such as direct sunlight during sunrise or sunset.
  • When sudden changes in brightness occur, for example when entering or exiting tunnels or driving under bridges.

System temporarily unavailable

If the Nissan Sentra is parked in direct sunlight under high ambient temperature conditions (above approximately 104°F [40°C]) and then started, the LDW system may temporarily deactivate automatically. In this case, the following message will appear in the vehicle information display: "Unavailable: High Cabin Temperature." Once the interior temperature is reduced to normal operating levels, the LDW system will resume operation automatically.

The LDW system is not designed to provide warnings under the following conditions:

• When the turn signal is activated and the vehicle changes lanes in the direction of the signal. (The LDW system will become active again approximately 2 seconds after the turn signal is turned off.)
• When the vehicle speed drops below approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).

After these conditions have ended and the required operating parameters are met, LDW system functionality will automatically resume.

System malfunction

If a malfunction is detected, the LDW system will cancel automatically and the message "Not Available System Malfunction" will appear in the vehicle information display. If this message is shown, safely pull the Nissan Sentra off the road, stop the vehicle, shift to the P (Park) position, turn the ignition switch OFF, and then restart the engine or motor. If the message continues to appear, have the system inspected. It is recommended to visit an authorized NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and service.

System maintenance

The lane camera unit (1) used by the LDW system is located above the interior rearview mirror. To ensure proper operation of the Lane Departure Warning system in the Nissan Sentra and to help prevent malfunctions, observe the following maintenance guidelines:

• Always keep the windshield clean, especially the area in front of the camera unit.
• Do not attach stickers, including transparent materials, or install accessories near the camera unit.
• Do not place reflective objects, such as white paper or mirrors, on the instrument panel. Reflected sunlight may interfere with the camera’s ability to detect lane markings accurately.
• Do not strike, damage, or modify the area around the camera unit. Do not touch the camera lens or remove any screws on the camera housing. If the camera unit is damaged due to an accident, it is recommended that you have the system inspected by an authorized NISSAN dealer.
