Event Data Recorders (EDR)

This vehicle is equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR). The primary function of the EDR is to record specific data during certain crash or near-crash events, such as air bag deployment or impact with a road obstacle, to help better understand how vehicle systems performed.

The EDR in your Nissan Sentra records information related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short duration, typically 30 seconds or less.

The EDR is designed to record data such as:

• The operational status of various vehicle systems;
• Whether the driver and passenger seat belts were fastened;
• The extent to which the accelerator and/or brake pedal was applied;
• The vehicle speed at the time of the event;
• Audio or sound data is not recorded.

This information may help provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding crashes and injuries. NOTE: EDR data are recorded only during significant crash events. No data are recorded during normal driving, and no personal identifying information (such as name, gender, age, or crash location) is stored by the EDR.

However, EDR data may be combined with other information routinely collected during a crash investigation by authorized parties, such as law enforcement.

Access to EDR data requires special equipment and physical access to the vehicle or the EDR itself. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer and authorized NISSAN dealers, other entities with the appropriate equipment may access this data when permitted by law.

EDR data will be retrieved only with the consent of the vehicle owner or lessee, or as otherwise required or permitted by applicable laws and regulations.
