Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Precautions on seat belt usage

When wearing a properly adjusted seat belt and sitting upright and well back
in your seat with both feet flat on the floor, your risk of injury or death in a
collision may be significantly reduced. Nissan Sentra vehicles are engineered with
advanced restraint systems, and NISSAN strongly encourages the driver and all passengers
to buckle up on every trip, even when supplemental air bags are provided.
Most U.S. states and Canadian provinces or territories specify that seat
belts must be worn at all times while a vehicle is being driven.

WARNING
- Every person who drives or rides in the Nissan Sentra must wear a seat
belt at all times. Children should always be seated in the rear seats and secured
using an appropriate child restraint system.

WARNING
- The seat belt must be properly adjusted to a snug fit. Failure to do
so can reduce the effectiveness of the restraint system and increase the likelihood
or severity of injury in an accident. Serious injury or death may occur if the
seat belt is not worn correctly.

WARNING
- Always route the shoulder belt over your shoulder and across your chest.
Never place the belt behind your back, under your arm, or across your
neck.
The belt should rest away from your face and neck while remaining securely
positioned on your shoulder.
- Position the lap belt as low and snug as possible around the hips, not
the waist. A lap belt worn too high can significantly increase the risk of internal
injuries during a collision.
- Ensure that the seat belt tongue is securely fastened into the correct
buckle.
- Do not wear the seat belt twisted or inside out, as this may reduce its
effectiveness.
- Never allow more than one person to use the same seat belt.
- Do not carry more occupants in the Nissan Sentra than there are available
seat belts.
- If the seat belt warning light remains illuminated or the chime continues
while the ignition is ON, all doors are closed, and all seat belts are fastened,
a malfunction may be present. Have the system inspected. It is recommended that
you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
- No modifications should be made to the seat belt system. Do not alter
the belt, add materials, or install devices that could change belt routing or
tension. Such modifications may interfere with proper operation and result in
serious personal injury.
- Once a seat belt pretensioner has activated, it cannot be reused and
must be replaced together with the retractor. It is recommended that you visit
a NISSAN dealer for proper replacement.
- All seat belt assemblies, including retractors and mounting hardware,
should be inspected after any collision.
NISSAN recommends replacing all seat belt assemblies that were in use
during a collision unless the collision was minor and the belts show no damage
and continue to operate correctly. Belts not in use should also be inspected
and replaced if damage or improper operation is found.
- All child restraint systems and their attaching hardware must be inspected
after any collision. Always follow the child restraint manufacturer’s inspection
and replacement instructions. Child restraints should be replaced if any damage
is detected.
The driver and front passenger seats in the Nissan Sentra are equipped with an
enhanced seat belt reminder system. When this feature is active, both a visual warning
and an audible chime will ...
