DTC Description

DTC DETECTION LOGIC

DTC	CONSULT screen terms (Trouble diagnosis content)	DTC detection condition
P2618	Crankshaft position signal (Crankshaft position signal output circuit low)	Diagnosis condition	Engine running at idle
		Signal (terminal)	Crankshaft position sensor signal for electric intake valve timing control
		Threshold	The crankshaft position sensor signal edge count is less than 18 counts per one camshaft rotation
		Diagnosis delay time	1 second

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Harness or connectors (Crankshaft position sensor signal circuit for electric intake valve timing control is open or shorted.)

FAIL-SAFE

Engine Control System

Engine operating condition in fail-safe mode
Fail safe mode		Nissan Sentra Vehicle behavior
Device fix mode		This mode fixes the electric IVT motor and the EVT control solenoid valve in the reference position. The intake manifold runner control valve motor is turned OFF (intake manifold runner control valve opens).
Combustion control mode	Stratified charge combustion control at starting	No stratified charge combustion at starting (cold start).
Others		ECM stops the electric valve timing control. (The camshaft returns to the position of most retard angle.)

Idle Start/Stop System

When a DTC is detected, the start/stop indicator lamp blinks slowly and the idle start/stop system operation is prohibited.

When ECM detects error while operating the idle start/stop system, ECM restarts the engine.

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P2618 is displayed with DTC P0335 or P0643, first perform the confirmation procedure (trouble diagnosis) for DTC P0335 or P0643.

Is DTC P0340 or P1140 detected?
YES >>
Perform diagnosis of applicable.
- DTC P0335: Refer to DTC Description.
- DTC P0643: Refer to DTC Description.
NO >>
GO TO 2.
PRECONDITIONING

If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always perform the turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test.

GO TO 3.
PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine and wait at least 5 seconds.
2. Check 1st trip DTC.
Is DTC P2618 detected?
YES >>
Refer to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.
NO-1 >>
To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.
NO-2 >>
Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P2618 is displayed with DTC P0335 or P0643, first perform the confirmation procedure (trouble diagnosis) for DTC P0335 or P0643.

Is DTC P0335 or P0643 detected?
YES >>
Perform diagnosis of applicable.
- DTC P0335: Refer to DTC Description.
- DTC P0643: Refer to DTC Description.
NO >>
GO TO 2.

CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR ELECTRIC INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL

Turn ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect ECM harness connector and electric intake valve timing control module harness connector.

Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and electric intake valve timing control module harness connector.

Also check harness for short to power and short to ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES >>

INSPECTION END

NO >>
