MAF SEN/CIRCUIT-B1

(Mass air flow sensor (bank 1) circuit range/performance)

Diagnosis condition

Mass air flow sensor signal

Threshold

  • A high voltage from the mass air flow sensor is sent to ECM under light load driving condition

  • A low voltage from the mass air flow sensor is sent to ECM under heavy load driving condition

Confirmation Procedure

Confirmation Procedure
  1. CHECK DTC PRIORITY

    If DTC P0101 is displayed with other DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for other DTC.

    Is applicable DTC detected?

    YES >>

    Perform diagnosis of applicable. Refer to DTC Index.

    NO >>

    GO TO 2.

  2. PRECONDITIONING

    If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test.

    If engine will not start or stops soon, wait at least 10 seconds with engine stopped (Ignition switch ON) instead of running engine at idle speed.

    >>

    GO TO 3.

  3. PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

    1. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

    2. Start engine and drive the Nissan Sentra vehicle as per the similar conditions to Freeze Frame Data for more than 5 seconds.

      Hold the accelerator pedal as steady as possible.

      CAUTION:

      Always drive Nissan Sentra vehicle in safe manner according to traffic conditions and obey all traffic laws when driving.

      • ENGINE SPEED

      • COOLANT TEMP

      • VEHICL SPEED

    Is DTC detected?

    YES >>

    Proceed to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.

    NO-1 >>

    To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.

    NO-2 >>

    Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

Dtc Diagnosis Procedure

DTC Diagnosis Procedure
  1. CHECK DTC PRIORITY

    If DTC P0101 is displayed with other DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for other DTC.

    Is applicable DTC detected?

    YES >>

    Perform diagnosis of applicable. Refer to DTC Index.

    NO >>

    GO TO 2.

  2. CHECK HARNESS CONNECTOR

    1. Disconnect mass air flow (MAF) sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

    2. Connect MAF sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

    3. Perform DTC Confirmation Procedure. Refer to Confirmation Procedure.

    Is 1st trip DTC detected?

    YES >>

    GO TO 3.

    NO >>

    INSPECTION END

  3. CHECK INTAKE SYSTEM

    Check the following for connection.

    • Air duct

    • Vacuum hoses

    • Intake air passage between air duct and intake manifold

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 4.

    NO >>

    Reconnect the parts.

  4. CHECK MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR POWER SUPPLY

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

    2. Disconnect MAF sensor harness connector.

    3. Turn ignition switch ON.

    4. Check the voltage between MAF sensor harness connector and ground.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 6.

    NO >>

    GO TO 5.

  5. CHECK SENSOR POWER SUPPLY 2 CIRCUIT

    Perform Diagnosis Procedure.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    Perform the trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

    NO >>

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  6. CHECK MAF SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

    2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.

    3. Check the continuity between MAF sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

    4. Also check harness for short to power.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 7.

    NO >>

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  7. CHECK MAF SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT

    1. Check the continuity between MAF sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

    2. Also check harness for short to ground and to power.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 8.

    NO >>

    Repair or replace error-detected parts

  8. CHECK INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

    Check the intake air temperature sensor. Refer to Component Inspection.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 9.

    NO >>

    Replace MAF sensor. Refer to Exploded View.

  9. CHECK PCV VALVE

    Check the PCV valve. Refer to POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION : Periodic Maintenance.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 10.

    NO >>

    Replace PCV valve.

  10. CHECK EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR

    Check the EVAP control system pressure sensor. Refer to Component Inspection.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    GO TO 11.

    NO >>

    Replace EVAP control system pressure sensor. Refer to Removal and Installation.

  11. PERFORM EVAP LEAK CHECK

    Perform the EVAP leak check. Refer to EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM : Inspection.

    >>

    GO TO 12.

  12. CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

    Check the followings with the freeze frame data of DTC P0101

    ENGINE SPEED

    Idling speed

    VEHICL SPEED

    0 KM/H

    S-FUEL TRM-B1

    not 125%

    Is the freeze frame data under the above condition?

    YES >>

    Perform idle air volume learning. Refer to Work Procedure.

    NO >>

    GO TO 13.

  13. CHECK MAF SENSOR

    Check the MAF sensor. Refer to Component Inspection.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES >>

    Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

    NO >>

    Replace MAF sensor. Refer to Exploded View.
