Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA)

WARNING

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions for proper use of the Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA) system on the Nissan Sentra could result in serious injury or death.

  • The I-DA system is designed only to provide a warning to the driver when signs of reduced attention or drowsiness are detected. It does not steer the Nissan Sentra, apply the brakes, or prevent loss of vehicle control.
  • The I-DA system does not detect driver inattention or fatigue in every driving situation or environment.
  • It remains the driver’s responsibility to:
    • stay alert at all times,
    • drive safely and responsibly,
    • keep the vehicle properly centered in the driving lane,
    • maintain full control of the Nissan Sentra at all times,
    • avoid driving while fatigued or drowsy,
    • minimize distractions such as mobile phone use or other activities.

The Intelligent Driver Alertness system helps notify the driver when a potential decrease in attention level or signs of driving fatigue are detected.

The system continuously monitors driving patterns and steering behavior over a period of time, comparing them to the driver’s normal operating behavior. If deviations suggesting reduced attention are identified, the Nissan Sentra provides visual and audible alerts encouraging the driver to take a rest break.

If the system determines that driver fatigue or reduced attention is present, the message “Take a break?” appears in the vehicle information display and an audible chime sounds when the Nissan Sentra is traveling at speeds above approximately 37 mph (60 km/h).

The system continues monitoring driver behavior throughout the trip and may issue multiple alerts if decreasing attention is detected again.

The Intelligent Driver Alertness system resets and begins reassessing driving behavior whenever the ignition switch is turned from the ON position to the OFF position and then back to the ON position.
