Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Hill start assist system
WARNING
- Never rely solely on the hill start assist system to prevent the Nissan
Sentra from rolling backward on an incline. Always drive attentively and maintain
control.
Depress the brake pedal firmly when stopped on steep hills, especially on icy, snowy, or muddy surfaces. Failure to prevent vehicle rollback may result in loss of control, serious injury, or death.
- The hill start assist system is not designed to hold the vehicle stationary on a hill for extended periods. Always keep the brake pedal depressed when stopped on a steep incline to prevent unintended movement.
- The hill start assist system may not prevent rollback under all load
or road conditions. Be prepared to apply the brake pedal at all times to maintain
control.
Failure to do so may result in a collision or serious personal injury.
When the Nissan Sentra is stopped on a hill, the hill start assist system automatically maintains brake pressure to help prevent the vehicle from rolling backward while the driver transitions from the brake pedal to the accelerator.
The hill start assist system operates automatically under the following conditions:
- The transmission is shifted into a forward or reverse gear.
- The vehicle is fully stopped on an incline using the brake pedal. The system holds brake pressure for up to 2 seconds. After this period, the vehicle may begin to roll and the system will disengage.
The hill start assist system does not operate when the shift lever is in the N (Neutral) or P (Park) position, or when the vehicle is stopped on a flat, level surface.
