Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Parking/parking on hills

WARNING
- Do not stop or park the Nissan Sentra over flammable materials such as dry grass, waste paper, or rags. These materials may ignite and cause a fire.
- Safe parking procedures require that the parking brake is fully applied
and the transmission is placed in P (Park) for Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT) models, or in an appropriate gear for manual transmission (M/T) models.
Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly or roll away, resulting
in a serious accident.
Always confirm that the shift lever has been moved completely forward and cannot be shifted without depressing the brake pedal.
- Never leave the engine running while the vehicle is unattended.
- Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They may unintentionally activate switches or controls, which could cause the vehicle to move. Unattended children may become involved in serious accidents.
- To help reduce the risk of injury or death due to unintended vehicle operation and/or system activation, do not leave children, individuals who require assistance, or pets unattended in your Nissan Sentra. On warm days, the temperature inside a closed vehicle can rise rapidly and become dangerous.
1. Firmly apply the parking brake.
2. M/T models
Place the shift lever in the R (Reverse) position. When parking on an uphill grade, place the shift lever in 1st gear.
CVT models
Move the shift lever into the P (Park) position.
3. To help prevent the vehicle from rolling into traffic when parked on an incline, it is recommended to turn the wheels as illustrated below.
- HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB 1: Turn the wheels toward the curb and move the vehicle forward until the curbside wheel gently contacts the curb.
- HEADED UPHILL WITH CURB 2: Turn the wheels away from the curb and move the vehicle backward until the curbside wheel gently contacts the curb.
- HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, NO CURB 3: Turn the wheels toward the edge of the road so the vehicle will roll away from traffic if it moves.
4. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position.
