Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Flat towing your vehicle

Flat towing

Towing a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground is commonly referred to as flat towing, dinghy towing, or “four-down” towing. This method is sometimes used when towing a vehicle behind a recreational vehicle such as a motorhome.

CAUTION

  • Failure to strictly follow these flat towing guidelines may result in severe and costly transmission damage.
  • When flat towing your Nissan Sentra, always tow the vehicle forward and never backward.
  • Never tow a front-wheel-drive Nissan Sentra with the front wheels on the ground, as this can cause serious damage to the drivetrain and powertrain components.
  • DO NOT flat tow any Nissan Sentra equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Doing so WILL cause internal transmission damage due to insufficient transmission lubrication.

Manual Transmission

  • Always tow vehicles with a manual transmission in the N (Neutral) position.
  • After every 500 miles (805 km) of towing, start the engine and allow it to idle for at least two minutes with the transmission in N (Neutral). Failure to perform this procedure may result in internal transmission damage.

Continuously Variable Transmission

To tow a Nissan Sentra equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission, an approved vehicle dolly MUST be placed under the drive wheels. Always adhere to the dolly manufacturer’s instructions and safety recommendations when using their equipment.
