Tow Truck Towing
Warning:
Never ride in a vehicle that is being towed.
Never get under your Nissan Sentra vehicle after it has been lifted by a tow truck.
CAUTION:
All applicable state or Provincial (in Canada) laws and local laws regarding the towing operation must be obeyed.
It is necessary to use proper towing equipment to avoid possible damage to the Nissan Sentra vehicle during towing operation. Towing is in accordance with Towing Procedure Manual at dealer.
Always attach safety chains before towing.
When towing, check that the transmission, steering system and powertrain are in good order. If any unit is damaged, dollies must be used.
Never tow a CVT model from the rear (that is backward) with four wheels on the ground. This may cause serious and expensive damage to the transmission.
FRONT Wheel Drive models with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
NISSAN recommends that Nissan Sentra vehicle be towed with the driving (front) wheels off the ground or that a flatbed be used as illustrated.
CAUTION:
Never tow CVT models with the front wheels on the ground or four wheels on the ground (forward or backward), as this may cause serious and expensive damage to the transmission.
If it is necessary to tow the Nissan Sentra vehicle with the rear wheels raised, always use towing dollies under the front wheels.
When towing CVT models with the front wheels on towing dollies:
Place the ignition switch to the OFF position, and secure the steering wheel in a straight ahead position with a rope or similar device. Never secure the steering wheel by placing the ignition switch to the LOCK position. This may damage the steering lock mechanism.
Move the selector lever to the N (Neutral) position.
When the battery of Nissan Sentra vehicle equipped with the Intelligent Key system is discharged, your vehicle should be towed with the front wheels on towing dollies or place the Nissan Sentra vehicle on a flat bed truck.
When towing two wheel drive CVT model with the rear wheels on the ground (if you do not use towing dollies): Always release the parking brake.
Do not use the Nissan Sentra vehicle tie-downs to tow a vehicle. The vehicle tie-downs should only be used for train, air and sea shipping.
FRONT Wheel Drive models with manual transmission
NISSAN recommends that Nissan Sentra vehicle be towed with the driving (front) wheels off the ground or that a flatbed be used as illustrated.
CAUTION:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in severe transmission damage.
If you have to tow manual transmission models with the rear wheels on the ground (if you do not use towing dollies) or four wheels on the ground:
Always release the parking brake.
Move the transmission shift lever to the N (Neutral) position
After towing 805 km (500 mi), start and idle the engine with the transmission in Neutral for two minutes. Failure to idle the engine after every 805 km (500 mi) of towing may cause damage to internal transmission parts.
Observe the following restricted towing speeds and distances for manual transmission models only:
Speed: Below 60 mph (97 km/h)
Distance: Less than 500 miles (805 km)
For additional information, it is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer.
