Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Supplemental air bag warning labels

Nissan Sentra Supplemental Restraint System air bag warning labels

  1. SRS Air bag warning labels The warning labels are positioned on the surface of the sun visor and are clearly visible to remind occupants of important safety precautions related to the Nissan Sentra Supplemental Restraint System.

Warning labels related to the supplemental front-impact air bag system are installed throughout the Nissan Sentra as illustrated, providing constant visual reminders of air bag safety requirements.

WARNING

Never use a rear-facing child restraint on a seat that is protected by an air bag positioned in front of it. If the air bag deploys, it can cause serious injury or death to the child.

Supplemental air bag warning light

Nissan Sentra supplemental air bag warning light indicator

The supplemental air bag warning light, displaying Nissan Sentra SRS warning symbol in the instrument panel, continuously monitors the electrical circuits for the air bag systems, pretensioner(s), and all related wiring in the Nissan Sentra.

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, the supplemental air bag warning light illuminates for approximately 7 seconds and then turns off. This indicates that the system is functioning correctly.

If any of the following conditions occur, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, knee air bag, and pretensioner systems require inspection and service:

  • The supplemental air bag warning light remains illuminated after approximately 7 seconds.
  • The supplemental air bag warning light flashes intermittently.
  • The supplemental air bag warning light does not illuminate at all.

Under these conditions, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, knee air bag, or pretensioner systems may not operate properly. They must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service to ensure continued safety in your Nissan Sentra.

WARNING

If the supplemental air bag warning light is illuminated, it may indicate that the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, knee air bag, and/or pretensioner systems will not function during an accident. To help prevent injury to yourself or others, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

Repair and replacement procedure

The front air bags, side air bags, curtain air bags, knee air bags, and pretensioner(s) are designed for one-time deployment only.

As a reminder, unless damage has occurred, the supplemental air bag warning light will remain illuminated after air bag deployment.

These systems must be repaired and/or replaced as soon as possible following deployment. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service to restore proper operation of the Nissan Sentra safety systems.

Whenever maintenance work is performed on the vehicle, the technician should be informed of the location of the front air bags, side air bags, curtain air bags, knee air bags, pretensioner(s), and all related components.

The ignition switch should always be placed in the LOCK position before performing any work under the hood or inside the vehicle.

WARNING

  • Once a front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, or knee air bag has deployed, the air bag module will no longer function and must be replaced.

Additionally, any activated pretensioner(s) must also be replaced. The air bag module and pretensioner(s) cannot be repaired and must be replaced as a complete unit. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

  • The front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag, knee air bag systems, and the pretensioner system should be inspected if there is any damage to the front or side areas of the vehicle.

It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

  • If disposal of the supplemental air bag or pretensioner systems is required, or if the vehicle is being scrapped, it is recommended that you contact a NISSAN dealer. Improper disposal procedures may result in personal injury.
  • If your Nissan Sentra experiences an impact from any direction, the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) should be inspected to confirm that it is operating correctly. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

The OCS should be checked even if no air bags deploy as a result of the impact.

Failure to confirm proper OCS operation may result in incorrect air bag deployment, which could lead to serious injury or death.
