Nissan Sentra B18 (2020-2025) Owner's Manual: Booster seats

For additional guidance on installing a booster seat in your Nissan Sentra, carefully follow the instructions provided in this section and those supplied by the booster seat manufacturer.

Precautions on booster seats

WARNING

If a booster seat and the seat belt are not used correctly, the risk of serious injury or death to a child during a sudden stop or collision is significantly increased:

  • Ensure the shoulder portion of the seat belt is positioned away from the child’s face and neck, and that the lap portion of the belt lies low and snug across the hips, not the abdomen.
  • Confirm that the shoulder belt is never placed behind the child or under the child’s arm.
  • A booster seat must only be installed in a seating position equipped with a lap/shoulder seat belt.

Nissan Sentra compatible booster seat examples

Booster seats are available in various sizes and designs from multiple manufacturers. When selecting a booster seat for use in the Nissan Sentra, keep the following important points in mind:

  • Choose only a booster seat with a certification label indicating compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 or Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 213.
  • Check the booster seat in your vehicle to confirm that it is compatible with the Nissan Sentra seat design and seat belt system.

  • Verify that the child’s head is properly supported by either the booster seat or the vehicle seat. The seatback must be at or above the center of the child’s ears. For example, when using a low back booster seat, the vehicle seatback must reach at least the center of the child’s ears. If the seatback is lower, a high back booster seat should be used.
  • Once compatibility with the vehicle is confirmed, seat the child in the booster seat and adjust it as needed to ensure proper fit. Always follow all recommended installation and adjustment procedures.

All U.S. states and Canadian provinces or territories require that infants and small children be restrained in an approved child restraint system at all times while the vehicle is in operation.

The instructions in this section apply to booster seat installation in the rear seats or, when permitted, in the front passenger seat of the Nissan Sentra.

Booster seat installation

WARNING

To reduce the risk of injury to a child, do not use the lap/shoulder seat belt in the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode when installing or using a booster seat.

Nissan Sentra booster seat installation overview

Follow these steps to install a booster seat in the rear seat or, if necessary, in the front passenger seat:

1. If a booster seat must be installed in the front passenger seat, move the seat to the rearmost position.

2. Position the booster seat on the vehicle seat.

Install the booster seat in a forward-facing direction only.

Always follow the booster seat manufacturer’s installation instructions.

3. Position the booster seat on the vehicle seat so that it remains stable and does not shift.

If required, adjust or remove the head restraint/headrest to achieve the correct booster seat fit. If the head restraint/headrest is removed, store it securely and reinstall it after the booster seat is removed.

If the seating position does not have an adjustable head restraint/headrest and it interferes with proper booster seat fit, choose another seating position or a different booster seat that is compatible with the Nissan Sentra.

4. Position the lap portion of the seat belt low and snug across the child’s hips. Follow the booster seat manufacturer’s instructions for correct belt routing.

5. Pull the shoulder portion of the seat belt toward the retractor to remove excess slack. Ensure the shoulder belt is positioned across the top, middle portion of the child’s shoulder. Follow the booster seat manufacturer’s instructions for belt routing.

6. Follow all warnings, cautions, and instructions for properly fastening a seat belt as described in “Three-point type seat belt with retractor”.
